Renovations, Worship Night and Flooding

Last month the church we go to (the one Pim works for as well) started renovating the building they are in.Much of this work is done by local contractors but some of it needs to be done by others with more experience in certain areas. So I spent a few days running and terminating cables to extend the network into another part of the building before the contractors finished putting in the ceiling. In total we ran well over a kilometer worth of cable but this should future proof that floor so we never have to run any more cables. I was also able to help with security cameras, a few smart locks for key areas in the building that need to be kept locked up, and speaker systems for the hallways and foyer.

During this time of renovation the church did not want to stop gathering and organizing events and so we had a worship night scheduled right in the middle of the work. This was perfectly okay as the workers had just wrapped up a section of the work and had taken some time to clean up. It was truly an awesome night of worship, which we live streamed as well.

And then just this past week we had a lot of rain in Chiang Rai. This rain was more than our local drainage and river could handle and the city partially flooded. Our house was fine but the church property completely flooded and it even got high enough to where it started entering the building. Luckily the staff were alerted in time and we were able to use sandbags to block off the entrances to the buildings to keep more water from coming in. It took a whole day to get all the water out of the buildings and get everything dry. This was the last day it rained. After this point the water started going down. Then it took another day of cleaning to get the buildings to where they were clean and not stinky anymore. Since yesterday we have been using 5 pumps to pump the remaining water out of the property and into the drainage system and the water level has been going down a bit at a time.
